Darren Harris, Paralympian, present prizes at The Peterborough School’s Speech Day
England’s most capped blind footballer, former Paralympian, bestselling author and founder of ‘Unblind you Mind’ Darren Harris joined parents, pupils, governors, and staff of The Peterborough School for our annual Speech Day in Peterborough Cathedral, to celebrate the success of the previous academic year and distribute awards.
Headmaster, Adrian Meadows, alongside Deputy Headmaster, Ross Cameron, Heads of School and the Senior Prefects delivered the annual review, highlighting the School’s excellent examination results, which saw almost 1 in 4 A Level students gain an A* or A grade in every single subject, and over 1 in 5 GCSE students gain Grades 9 to 7 in eight or more of their subjects. A cheque for just over £6,000 was presented to Afrinspire as the chosen charity for 2023-2024 academic year.
Darren Harris addressed the Cathedral audience, detailing his own difficult journey and the path to overcoming adversity. Darren spoke about the importance of resilience and altering your mindset when faced with challenges, and how choosing to view situations from different perspectives allows us to grow and learn in ways we never imagined. He emphasized that every obstacle encountered is an opportunity to develop strength and character. By shifting our focus from what is lost to what can be gained, we unlock new potentials within ourselves.
Darren Harris presented over 160 prizes to our Prizewinners from the Preparatory, Senior School, Sixth Form and Class of 2024 Upper Sixth Leavers. Congratulations were extended to former Deputy Head of School, Harriet Miller, on receiving a record five prizes in her Upper Sixth year after her four A* grades at A Level this summer.
Heads of School Rowan and Bethany expressed their gratitude to Darren with a Vote of Thanks, and a gift.
